WoW Midnight Season 3 Mythic+ Dungeon Rotation Changes

Blizzard has revealed the Mythic+ dungeon rotation for World of Warcraft: Midnight Season 3, along with an early look at major changes coming to several returning dungeons.

Season 3 arrives as part of Patch 12.2: Eclipse and will feature a mix of Midnight content and dungeons from previous expansions. However, players shouldn't expect the returning instances to play exactly as they did before. Blizzard plans to update boss encounters, trash packs, dungeon routes, ability visuals, and several mechanics that caused problems during previous Mythic+ seasons.

Midnight Season 3 Mythic+ Dungeon Rotation

The Season 3 Mythic+ pool includes eight dungeons:

  • Thraegar's Stand — New in Patch 12.2

  • Magisters' Terrace — Midnight

  • Maisara Cavern — Midnight

  • Uldaman: Legacy of Tyr — Dragonflight

  • Sanguine Depths — Shadowlands

  • The Underrot — Battle for Azeroth

  • Iron Docks — Warlords of Draenor

  • The Stonecore — Cataclysm

Thraegar's Stand will be the new dungeon joining the rotation, while the other seven instances will receive different levels of adjustments before Season 3 begins.

Blizzard Is Updating Returning Mythic+ Dungeons

Instead of simply bringing older dungeons back unchanged, Blizzard is reviewing feedback from their previous appearances in Mythic+.

The developers are focusing on several areas, including dungeon pacing, frustrating enemy abilities, boss mechanics, route flexibility, caster density, and visual clarity.

Trash mobs across the Season 3 pool are also being reviewed. Some abilities may be redesigned or removed, while others will receive updated visual effects to make dangerous mechanics easier to recognize during combat.

These changes are still in development, so additional adjustments are expected once Season 3 reaches PTR testing.

Maisara Cavern

Maisara Cavern will receive changes primarily focused on the opening section of the dungeon.

Blizzard is experimenting with moving the locations of captives and available buffs. The goal is to provide players with more options when planning their route instead of forcing groups through the same path every run.

The Muro'jin and Nekraxx encounter is also being reviewed. Blizzard wants to make the central mechanics of the fight easier to understand without completely changing the identity of the encounter.

Several trash enemies, including Bound Defenders, are also being evaluated, and some existing enemies could even be replaced with completely new creatures.

Magisters' Terrace

Another Midnight dungeon returning to Mythic+ is Magisters' Terrace.

One of the biggest areas Blizzard plans to revisit is the library event. The developers want to introduce additional ways to move through this section, as well as new books for players to discover.

The final boss, Degentrius, is also planned for an update.

Trash packs throughout the dungeon will receive another balancing pass, including enemies such as the Devouring Tyrant. Like Maisara Cavern, some existing creatures may also be replaced to introduce new mechanics and encounters.

Uldaman: Legacy of Tyr

Uldaman is getting one of the most noticeable structural changes of the entire Season 3 pool.

Blizzard acknowledged that previous versions of Uldaman: Legacy of Tyr could feel too long, particularly when combined with certain boss encounters and higher Mythic+ key levels.

To improve the overall pacing, the dungeon will be reduced from five bosses to four on Heroic, Mythic, and Mythic+ difficulties.

The Lost Dwarves encounter will be removed, and the surrounding story progression will be adjusted accordingly.

Emberon is also being changed. Instead of activating Purging Flames through a repeating energy cycle, the mechanic will trigger at specific health percentages.

This should prevent high-level groups from being forced into additional intermission phases simply because the boss survives longer on higher keystone difficulties.

Iron Docks

Iron Docks is receiving a much larger modernization pass.

Blizzard plans to review trash enemies throughout the dungeon, with particular attention being paid to the opening area. Groups previously had to deal with numerous stationary ranged enemies, which could make pulling and positioning packs unnecessarily awkward.

The number and behavior of these enemies will be adjusted.

All four boss encounters are also planned to receive updates designed around modern Mythic+ gameplay.

The famous Iron Stars aren't going anywhere. Blizzard wants to preserve this unique part of Iron Docks, but the dungeon should become less dependent on using them perfectly. Iron Stars will remain powerful tools without being as important to successfully completing a route.

The Stonecore

Of all the returning dungeons, The Stonecore appears to be receiving one of the biggest overall transformations.

Blizzard describes the update as a full modernization of the dungeon, both visually and mechanically.

Enemy encounters and bosses will receive new designs, while many of the creatures found inside the dungeon will also receive updated models.

At the same time, Blizzard wants to preserve the recognizable moments that made the original Cataclysm version memorable.

Players will still encounter familiar characters and sequences, including the chase involving Millhouse Manastorm, but the dungeon around them should feel considerably more modern.

Sanguine Depths

Sanguine Depths has traditionally contained a large number of caster-heavy trash packs, something Blizzard plans to address for Season 3.

The developers want fights against regular enemies to be easier to read and less overloaded with abilities requiring constant interrupts.

As part of this process, some caster enemies may be consolidated. Blizzard specifically mentioned plans to potentially combine Dark Acolytes and Wicked Oppressors into a single enemy type while also reducing how frequently players encounter them.

Boss encounters will largely retain their original designs, but certain mechanics may be adjusted to improve visual and mechanical clarity.

Small navigation improvements are also planned throughout the dungeon.

The Underrot

The Underrot is returning once again, but Season 3 will bring several changes to encounters and dungeon routing.

Elder Leaxa will be updated to make the encounter less dependent on constant interrupts.

Cragmaw the Infested is also being reviewed. Blizzard wants groups to make greater use of the boss arena instead of concentrating most of the encounter in a limited part of the room.

Trash enemy placement will change throughout the dungeon as well, particularly near the final section. These changes are intended to create more routing options for Mythic+ groups.

The number of caster enemies around Cragmaw's arena is also being evaluated.

Season 3 Could Feel Very Different for Returning Dungeons

Blizzard's approach to the Midnight Season 3 Mythic+ pool goes beyond simply rotating older dungeons back into the game.

Several instances are receiving substantial mechanical updates, with The Stonecore and Iron Docks undergoing particularly large modernization passes. Meanwhile, changes to Uldaman, Sanguine Depths, and The Underrot are focused heavily on pacing, routing, and reducing frustrating mechanics.

The current list of changes is only an early preview. Blizzard has confirmed that development is still ongoing, meaning individual mechanics, enemy placements, and encounters may continue to change before Season 3 launches.

More details should become available as Patch 12.2: Eclipse moves closer to PTR testing and release.
